Donald Lee Dimitry, 89, passed away peacefully on Wednesday October 4th, 2023 surrounded by his loving family and his long-time caregiver Abena Fosuae.   

Don was a quiet, caring, humble, and selfless man with a quick wit and penchant for sarcasm.  He cherished spending time with family and friends, particularly the annual family vacations in the Outer Banks, N.C.  Don was an avid sports enthusiast, Giants fan, played tennis, loved card games, puzzles, and reading.  He was an animal lover and rescued both of his treasured dogs Maggie and Nutmeg. 

Don was a Sergeant in the United States Army and received a BS in mathematics from Kent State and a MS in statistics from Rutgers University.  He enjoyed a 31-year career at IBM which included a four-year European assignment with his family.  After retiring from IBM, Don spent several years working as the Director of IT at Bouras Industries.  Throughout this time he also co-authored two books, served as a lecturer at Rutgers University and an Adjunct Professor at Fairleigh Dickinson University for the MBA program. He was an active member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church serving as treasurer of the parish council for many years. 

Don was predeceased by his first wife, Helen Kyrioglou Dimitry (1995) to whom he was married for nearly 35 years until her death, and his parents John and Irene Dimitry.  He is survived by his wife Nancy Dimitry with whom he just celebrated his 25-year anniversary, his younger brother James Dimitry, his 3 children John Dimitry (wife Sue), Tom Dimitry (wife Karen), and Christina Dimitry and his grandchildren Devon, Brian, and Kayla, as well as his many grand-dogs. 

                          

A viewing will be held Sunday October 8th, 2023 at Higgins and Bonner Echo Lake Funeral Home, 582 Springfield Avenue, Westfield NJ from 4:00 to 7:00 pm with a funeral service on Tuesday October 10th at 11:00 am at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Westfield.  Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery immediately following the funeral service.  Please join us to remember, honor and celebrate Don’s life.
